Businesses challenged to reduce their carbon emissions   ()

A guide to support businesses in reducing their carbon emissions has been published by the Department of Energy and Climate Change in preparation for the Carbon Reduction

The new carbon commitment - which comes into effect in April 2010 - is part of a package of measures to help more than 5,000 organisations save over four million tonnes of carbon dioxide every year.

Joan Ruddock, energy and climate change minister, said businesses could save a total of £1 billion by 2020 if they deployed more environmentally friendly practices.

"Cutting back on energy use and becoming more energy efficient makes economic sense for firms at the best of times, but it's even more important now given the difficult business environment," she stated.

Organisations will be ranked in a league table for how energy efficient they are and will be financially rewarded.

Remember - A range of energy performance management services is offered by insurers to help reduce the carbon emissions of buildings. Robinson Buckley is available to negotiate terms for such contracts.
